Simple Date Idea #3 – Photo Scavenger Hunt

Here in the Midwest we’re having an unusually warm weather pattern for February, which means we have so many more options for going on a simple date. One that my husband and I love to do together involves capturing photos of either the beauty outside or moments inside for a quick selfie of us, or sometimes of us with our friends.

Photo Date

I have to brag a bit on my hubby here. He was a stellar photographer in the Air Force years before we met. Actually, he’s still an amazing photographer! He was even offered a photographer position at the White House near the end of his Air Force career. #impressive

Thankfully, he decided he’d rather go on to college, and that’s where we met!

I’ve always had an interest in photography too. So with my handy phone camera, I’m always in the mood to take a pic or two. I think that’s how some of the best dates evolve. You find something that you both enjoy doing and carve out times to do it together.

In that spirit, I’m going to also include some photos that I took (as well as one that my friend, Erica Donoho took of our table below) at our church’s annual marriage retreat last weekend. That’s another great way to build into your marriage—making times to get away and talk about “heart-matters” in your marriage. 😉

What is an interest that you share with your mate?

When and where are you going on your next “simple date” with your mate?

I recently was a guest at Marnie and Friend’s radio show this past week. If you’re interested, you can listen in to our conversation about The Top Mistakes I Made in Marriage. And let me tell ya . . . I’ve made more than my fair share! 😉

Oh I love this idea! How fun! We’re definitely going to do this soon!

    • I’m so glad you like the idea, Karrilee! I do hope you and your hubby try it! We just love finding time to do this. Thanks for encouraging me, my friend!

  2. Hi Beth,
So great to see you again. Missed you. I am following you at Susan B Mead’s linkup. As for dating we do that occasionally. One winter in AZ my husband took me on a secret date every Sunday. But he ran out of ideas. :(. But right now we are renovating our kitchen – that means lots of togetherness, sore legs, and arms. I am ready for an early bed tonight.

    • Yeah, I’ve been in a really busy season, Janis. It’s hard to find time for all that’s on my plate! But thanks so much for swinging by and stopping in to say “hi.” Sounds like your hubby is really creative and romantic! My husband has taken me on a couple of surprise dates/weekends. It’s always such a treat!

  3. I love this idea because I love to take pictures. How cool that your husband was almost a photographer for the White House! Hope your Sunday is going well.

    • Yes, Mary, I think most bloggers can relate to the love of photography. I’m so glad we can now do this simultaneously. Back in the day before “phone cameras,” it wasn’t all that much fun. We would take out our good camera but have to wait on each other while the other one took the “camera for a spin!” 😉 Thanks for stopping by to encourage me, Mary!

Sorry to be so late to the conversation, Beth. It was not a good weekend for me.

This is a terrific idea, and from my perspective, an opportunity lost. Most of our married life is undocumented, and it would be wonderful to relive the high points, now that there are none left in the future.

  5. I am a huge fan of scavenger hunts, and I’m so doing this! Thanks for all of your wonderful ideas:) I so appreciate you!
