3 Fun Ways to Spice Up Your Love Life Using the Bible

Today I want to provide a romantic game that you and your spouse can play using the Bible as your guide to spice up your love life. No, I’m not going to suggest sitting together, holding hands, while breathlessly taking turns reading the Ten Commandments to each other! 😉

There certainly are more romantic passages to use than the Ten Commandments for this game! Like passages from the Song of Solomon—the quintessential book on biblical romance—which are perfect for this use!

The game I’m suggesting is called “The Game of Love.” It has three options that you can pick and choose from—doing one of them or as many as all three. 😉

1. “Kiss and Tell” (Based on Song of Solomon 1:2-4)

What you’ll need:

  • Undistracted time (making sure there’s a babysitter, if needed)
  • Scripture to read and refer to
  • Favorite drink (wine, if that’s your thing!)
  • Perfume/Cologne or fragrant essential oil (you and your spouse’s favorites)
  • Atmospheric props (mood music, candles, favorite bed linens, etc.)

Read this Scripture to your mate …

“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine.”—Song of Solomon 1:2

  • Start off by giving each other one soft, sensual closed-mouth kiss.
  • Then take a sip of wine or your favorite beverage. You could even try to carefully and sensually pour the drink into each other’s mouths.
  • Then kiss again with a more passionate kiss.
  • Follow that up with another sip of your drinks.
  • Repeat this for as long as you would like or move on to the next step.

Read Scripture …

“Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the young women love you!”  —Song of Solomon 1:3

  • Spritz/rub your wife’s favorite fragrance on your favorite part of her body.
  • As the wife, do the same by spritzing your husband’s favorite cologne on your favorite part of his body.
  • Tell each other what you think the opposite sex finds attractive in your mate.
  • Spritz the fragrance again on another favorite part of your mate’s body.
  • Tell your mate what physical feature(s) you find especially attractive about him/her.

Read Scripture …

“Take me away with you—let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers.”  —Song of Solomon 1:4

  • Turn on romantic music, light some candles or add mood lighting, then get down to the business of lovemaking.
  • You might even want to keep the “royal” theme going—pretending to be a king and his queen in your “king-size or queen-size bed.” 😉 Say things like, “You are the most beautiful lady in all of my kingdom!” Or “I love it when you sit on your throne! You look so powerful and commanding!” Really ham it up!

2. “Anatomy Affirmations”

Husband’s: Based on Song of Solomon 5:10-16. Wife’s: Based on Song of Solomon 7:1-6.

What you’ll need:

  • Private and undistracted time together
  • Scripture to read and refer to
  • Courage (if you’re not much of an affirmer of your mate!)

I’m not going to share what these two passages say, because they are rather long. (You can hover over the references above and they will pop up.) Once you read them, you’ll see how Solomon and his beloved share with each other detailed affirmations of each other’s anatomy/looks.

The affirmations given to the husband work from his shoulders and head downward and then back up to his mouth. In a similar way the affirmations of the wife work from her feet up toward hair and face.

So what you would do is affirm in a similar way each of the parts of your mate’s body—moving up or down or all around, depending on your preference.

You could say to your wife …

  • Honey, your toes always look so well-manicured and lovely.
  • Your legs have a beautiful tan from the summer sun.
  • I think your figure is still so sexy after all of these years.

You could say to your husband …

  • Honey, I’ve always loved how broad your shoulders are.
  • Your wavy hair is one of my favorite features of yours.
  • I just love the color of your eyes.

Be sure to thank your mate after he/she has shared so vulnerably with you!

3. “Romantic Roadtrip” (Based on Song of Solomon 7:10-13)

What you’ll need:

  • Scripture to read and refer to
  • A scenic locale—perhaps near a vineyard to keep with the theme in the passage.
  • Aphrodisiac fruits like: strawberries, bananas, pomegranate poms, goji berries, etc. Try dipping or accompanying these fruits with the aphrodisiac of “chocolate” as well. 😉
  • Camera (or phone camera)
  • Picnic lunch and accessories

Before you hit the road, pray a brief prayer together based on this …

“I belong to my beloved, and his desire is for me.” —Song of Solomon 7:10

It might sound like, “Lord, thank You for giving me my beloved spouse! Thank You that his/her desire is for me, and my desire is for him/her. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

As you drive along, begin by reading aloud …

“Come, my beloved, let us go to the countryside, let us spend the night in the villages.” —Song of Solomon 7:11

During your drive, ask each other these questions:

  • What do you hope to see and do while we are in the countryside?
  • What do you hope to see and do while we visit a nearby village?

Next …

  • Be sure to take pictures of interesting sights—including of yourselves—as you travel and stop along the way.
  • Visit a nearby vineyard or other favorite scenic location.
  • Once you’re there, spread out your picnic in a prime spot to enjoy your basket lunch, tasty treats and favorite beverages.

Then read …

“Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vines have budded, if their blossoms have opened, and if the pomegranates are in bloom—there I will give you my love. The mandrakes send out their fragrance, and at our door is every delicacy, both new and old, that I have stored up for you, my beloved.” —Song of Solomon 7:12-13

(Btw, a mandrake is an aphrodisiac root/fruit from the Mediterranean.)

  • Begin to feed each other your fruits and chocolates.
  • Stop occasionally to kiss and stroke each other affectionately.

Share your answers to these questions:

  • What was a favorite excursion that we’ve taken together in the past, and what did you like about it?
  • Is there a place you would like to go to in the future, and if so, what would you want to do once there?
  • What is something you want to “store up” and give more often to me in our marriage moving forward?

Last of all …

  • Be sure to take lots of photos so you can reminisce about this special day whenever the urge strikes!
  • Speaking of urges, end this day/time with lovemaking and lots of affection/affirmation.

Which of these three game options would you like to get on your dating docket?

What other “spicy” activities would you add to the ones I’ve mentioned? Keeping it clean, friends!
